Please answer the following questions to be considered for the yearbook class. Also, it is highly encouraged that students take the Intro to Digital Photography class offered during 2nd hour.
We want as many students to be allowed to participate in the class as possible, however, with limited space, we have to be more selective. It is important to me that your student understands the high-level of commitment required for the yearbook class before we begin co-op in September.
We have seen a lot of students with a high level of commitment have a high level of success in their yearbook experience. We have also seen a lot of students sign up for yearbook thinking it would be just a fun class to take, not realizing the high level of commitment needed. These students generally end up dropping out partway through the year or not completing their assigned tasks, creating a very big added responsibility for the chief editor and the teacher as well as the students who continue to take yearbook.
Please understand that your student will be required to do homework at home. A quality camera (or smart phone with a quality camera) and a quality computer are absolutely essential. WiFi at home and an email address is essential. Students will have large responsibilities and important deadlines. This is a great opportunity for students to learn how to manage their time well and meet important deadlines. This is not a class for students who generally blow off deadlines and do not complete homework assignments. If you have a student who is unfamiliar with cameras or computers and is NOT motivated to learn, this may not be the class for them.
This is an amazing, fun class where students get to let their creativity shine through photography, graphic design and team work. Together this yearbook team leaves a legacy that will showcase the community that is Excelsior.
